Indian badminton star P V Sindhu stresses the importance of education for athletes, warning against focusing solely on sports. Drawing from personal experience, she advocates for a strong academic backup, emphasizing that education provides lifelong support beyond a sporting career that can be abruptly ended by injuries.
Two-time Olympic medalist P V Sindhu emphasized the significance of education for aspiring athletes, highlighting the potential risks of prioritizing sports at the expense of academics. Speaking at DPS International with educationist Devyani Jaipuria, she urged athletes to pursue education alongside their sports careers.
Sindhu recounted her struggles with self-doubt before the 2016 Olympics due to a stress fracture, underscoring her message that sporting careers can be abruptly ended by injuries. She expressed that while sports are essential, education is the lifelong asset that stays with an individual.
The badminton ace reiterated that sports can be uncertain, with unexpected injuries possibly ending careers. Sindhu urged young athletes to maintain academic pursuits to ensure they are prepared for life beyond the courts, drawing from her own experience of overcoming a potentially career-ending injury.
