The Supreme Court, in a significant development, granted bail to renowned filmmaker Vikram Bhatt in a high-stakes cheating case involving multimillion-rupee allegations. Bhatt, alongside his wife Shwetambari, faced legal challenges following allegations of financial misappropriation related to a film project.
The apex court's bench, headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, later ratified the interim bail previously accorded to Shwetambari Bhatt after the Rajasthan High Court had earlier rejected the couple's bail plea. The Bhatts were initially detained in Mumbai and subsequently taken to Udaipur last December.
The legal proceedings began following a complaint by Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF and Fertility Centre, who accused the Bhatts of inducing him into a Rs 30 crore investment, reportedly for a biopic, which allegedly resulted in financial misconduct. Mediation was recommended to amicably resolve the issue.
