Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has marked another year of significant achievements in rose export during the Valentine’s season, transporting approximately 60 million rose stems to 26 countries. This translates to over 2,700 tonnes of roses, showcasing an impressive 38% increase in stem volumes and a 64% surge in tonnage compared to the previous year.
For the fifth consecutive year, this performance solidifies Bengaluru Airport as India’s foremost gateway for perishable exports, officials of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) confirmed. Among international destinations, Singapore leads in demand, followed by major cities like Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, and New York. This season saw new additions in international destinations including Los Angeles, London Gatwick, and Orlando.
On domestic turf, the airport shipped 2,402 tonnes of roses, delivering a notable 79% increase from last year's figures. Major cities like Delhi and Kolkata anchor the demand, with impressive growth rates observed in cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chandigarh. This success is attributed to Bengaluru Airport’s advanced cold chain infrastructure, ensuring the utmost freshness and efficiency in rose exports.
