Local legislators in Vasai-Virar are pushing for Chhath Puja festivities to be held in natural water bodies, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. The festival, slated for October 27 and 28, has sparked concerns over possible civic restrictions.
Vasai MLA Sneha Dubey Pandit and Nalasopara MLA Rajan Naik engaged in discussions with municipal officials, emphasizing the importance of preserving the ecosystem. They proposed that 'nirmalya' or floral offerings be gathered in large urns and requested the deployment of volunteers to maintain cleanliness.
The Vasai-Virar City municipal commissioner, Manojkumar Suryavanshi, reassured the legislators that the decision by civic authorities would be considerate and well-informed, aiming to accommodate the festival's cultural significance while addressing environmental concerns.
