In a shocking incident that has raised concerns about student welfare, a headmaster from Odisha's Jajpur district was suspended Tuesday after being accused of punishing students with stinging nettle. Basudev Dehury, of Saruabili Upper Primary School, allegedly placed the plant in the trousers of ten male students, causing them severe discomfort.

The students reportedly experienced significant pain and irritation from the nettle, leading them to inform their parents after reaching home. This revelation prompted an outraged reaction from parents who confronted Dehury at the school, demanding immediate action against him.

Responding to the uproar, Sukinda Block Education Officer Narayan Das assured parents of a thorough investigation, following which Dehury was suspended pending further inquiry. The incident has intensified the dialogue on banning corporal punishment in schools, a stance echoed by concerned parents and community members.
