Controversy Over Mandatory Recitation of 'Manache Shlok' in Mumbai Schools

In a move raising eyebrows across Mumbai's educational landscape, Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator and former Mayor Kishori Pednekar has proposed a motion in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for the mandatory recitation of 'Manache Shlok' verses in schools.

However, the proposal, aimed at fostering moral and intellectual growth among students through spiritual literature, has faced opposition from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The group's leader, Vijay Ubale, argues that imposing religious literature in secular civic schools undermines the principles of their educational mandate.

This proposal, which could soon be debated in the general body meeting, seeks the readiness of the civic administration and the state government to extend the recitation mandate to all schools. AIMIM recommends an alternative focus on teaching the Constitution to prepare students better for civic responsibility.
