Navi Mumbai International Airport, owned by the Adani Group, is poised for significant growth as it prepares to handle 50,000 passengers and 380 flights daily by the end of the year. Currently accommodating 20,000 passengers and 150 air traffic movements (ATMs) daily, the airport's ambitious targets hinge on its ability to adjust to ongoing global circumstances.
Sources indicate that international operations, initially expected to commence this summer, have been postponed due to the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region. The delay affects planned international flights, which were set to include 16 arrivals and departures each day.
The dominance of IndiGo airlines at NMIA, presently handling 70% of the airport's flights, is anticipated to rise to 80%. While IndiGo shows strong commitment to international flight operations at NMIA, challenges such as discussions over wide-body aircraft remain unresolved. NMIA's growth, while promising, faces hurdles that require strategic navigation amid geopolitical tensions.
