In a striking example of the unemployment crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, a former lab technician from Pulwama district has resorted to applying for a sweeper position at the same primary health centre where he once worked. The man, whose identity remains anonymous, recently submitted his application to the Primary Health Centre in Awantipora.
The situation came to light when PDP spokesperson Mohit Bhan shared the application letter via Facebook, expressing dismay over the man's plight. The letter, dated March 31, outlined the technician's previous employment at the centre and his urgent need for work.
Bhan's social media post calls attention to a deeper issue in the region, where the unemployment rate has reached 6.7%, nearly double the national average. Bhan criticized the government's unfulfilled promises of job creation and highlighted the public's growing discontent with the lack of employment opportunities.
