The Indian government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 447.11 crore for the upgradation of national highways in Odisha's Nuapada and Bolangir districts, as announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The project involves enhancing the Kurumpuri–Raj Khariar section, which covers 103.52 km across NH-353 and NH-59.

Gadkari stressed the importance of these highways, noting that they form a crucial corridor linking the Raipur–Mahasamund region in Chhattisgarh with key segments in Odisha. This development is expected to improve regional connectivity, streamline passenger and freight movement, and bolster road safety.

With better infrastructure, access to tourist hotspots such as Daringbadi and Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary will improve, fostering tourism and regional economic growth. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded this initiative, calling it transformative for local development and prosperity.
