Border Tensions: Iraq Closes Shalamcheh Crossing Post-Iran Airstrikes

Iraq has shut down the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran following fatal airstrikes that occurred on the Iranian side, killing an Iraqi citizen. Security sources confirmed the closure on Saturday, putting a vital supply line on hold.

The border crossing is instrumental for importing vegetables and other food supplies into Iraq, crucial for maintaining local market supplies. The strikes also left at least five Iraqis seriously wounded in the passenger reception area.

While Iraqi authorities recovered one body, critically wounded individuals were rushed to the hospital. Iraqi border officials have been informed by their Iranian counterparts that normal operations will resume shortly upon completion of work on transit and passport systems.
