The Vande Bharat trains, marked as a separate passenger service segment, continue to capture nationwide attention with their unique fare structure. Factors such as service costs, competition, and socio-economic impacts play crucial roles in decision-making, as Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated during a Lok Sabha session.
Vaishnaw highlighted that the Vande Bharat trains, which boasted an impressive 100% average occupancy during 2024-25, reflect India's growing acceptance of these advanced services. Presently, 81 pairs of these trains operate across the Indian Railways network, enhancing passenger mobility and providing a premium travel experience.
In response to queries from DMK MP Malaiyarasan D, Vaishnaw detailed the government's expenditure and expansion plans for Vande Bharat. He emphasized Indian Railways' commitment to delivering affordable, quality service, aiming to broaden their reach to smaller cities with the development of indigenous semi high-speed trainsets.
