CMA CGM Kribi Navigates Closed Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Tensions
The CMA CGM Kribi, operated by French company CMA CGM, recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This marks a rare transit since Iran's effective closure of the strait. The global shipping giant did not comment on the event as shipping traffic has significantly reduced due to ongoing tensions.

In an unprecedented move, the CMA CGM Kribi became one of the few vessels to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran's decision to effectively seal it off, as observed by MarineTraffic. The Malta-flagged ship, operated by the French shipping giant CMA CGM, set sail from Dubai and reached Muscat, Oman, shortly after.
The passage of the CMA CGM Kribi is notable due to the drastic decline in maritime traffic through the strait, which has significantly dropped by around 90 percent since the onset of heightened Iran tensions, according to Lloyd's List Intelligence.
While the ship's journey is linked to French operations, CMA CGM currently refrains from commenting on the situation. The limited traffic transiting the vital waterway largely involves vessels from Iran, China, India, and Pakistan, underscoring the geopolitical climate's impact on global shipping.
