The Gujarat government has allocated Rs 3,440 crore for significant road resurfacing and improvement efforts aimed at enhancing connectivity and safety in remote villages, a senior cabinet minister announced Wednesday.
According to cabinet minister Jitu Vaghani, the focus is not only on building new roads but also ensuring their long-term quality and maintenance. In the approved project, around 5,700 km of roads across 33 districts will undergo improvements, affecting 67% of the state's non-planned roads.
To ensure quality and cost-effectiveness, systems like Output and Performance-Based Contract (OPRC) and Performance-Based Maintenance Contracts (PBMC) were introduced. These efforts are expected to curb lifecycle costs, provide better road safety, and improve infrastructure transparency via digital monitoring.
