The Indian government is ramping up domestic LPG production amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, announced Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The move aims to ensure a consistent supply of cooking gas to households, even as India's reliance on imports faces challenges due to geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Sitharaman stressed that India is working towards self-reliance, significantly boosting its domestic capabilities. The government has directed oil refineries to prioritize LPG production, resulting in an approximate 25% increase in domestic output. This strategic decision aims to stabilize and secure LPG supplies for domestic consumers during these uncertain times.
The Finance Minister also assured that there is adequate fertiliser stock for the Kharif season, and steps are being taken to ensure timely procurement of nutrients for the Rabi season. Global bidding for fertiliser imports will commence soon, positioning India to meet its agricultural needs effectively despite international adversities.
