Pilots Urged to Assess Risks in Conflict Zones Amid Middle East Tensions

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) India has issued a directive for its members, emphasizing the importance of conducting thorough operational risk assessments before planning flights in or near conflict-affected areas. This advisory, directed at pilots holding an Indian licence, is timely given the recent escalation in Middle East tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

The ongoing conflict has already led to numerous flight cancellations due to airspace restrictions since February 28. ALPA India warns its members to be particularly mindful of aviation insurance implications, especially concerning war-risk clauses. In high-risk zones, insurance coverage may be limited or withdrawn altogether, posing significant risks to operations.

As an affiliate of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Association, ALPA India underscores the rapidly evolving security threats in the Middle East, including potential airspace closures and electronic warfare. The advisory urges pilots to exercise heightened situational awareness, adhere to company advisories, and report safety concerns through established channels.
