Generous Waivers at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Amid West Asia Conflict

In a proactive measure to mitigate disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, operators at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port have announced significant waivers on charges for stranded Middle East-bound containers. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) confirmed that ground rent and dwell time charges would be waived entirely for up to 15 days.

The initiative aligns with a directive from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways that urged major port operators to provide relief by waiving various charges. In addition to the full waiver on ground rent, terminal operators will also reduce reefer plug-in charges by 80% for the same period, providing financial relief to port users.

The announcement comes as several global port operators collaborate with JNPA to maintain the smooth functioning of the port amidst heightened geopolitical disturbances. Efforts include increased collaboration with customs authorities and the provision of additional storage space, ensuring continued support for exporters and facilitating trade operations.
