India Strengthens Global Economic Ties Amidst Uncertain International Landscape

India is fortifying its global economic presence, engaging more deeply with international partners, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Addressing the Global Economic Cooperation conference, he pointed to recent trade agreements as evidence of India's escalating economic influence.

Jaishankar painted the current global landscape as one of disruption, with the "weaponisation" of finance and production, sweeping market changes, and shifting export controls. He warned of a challenging transition phase as the established global order undergoes significant transformation across strategic, political, and technological domains.

Highlighting India's strategic maneuvers, Jaishankar noted that the country is negotiating high-profile trade pacts, including a reduction in US tariffs on Indian goods. While such moves signal strength, they have sparked political debate, with opposition criticizing potential compromises in national and economic security.
