CISF Secures India’s Largest Greenfield Airport

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has taken command of security at the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport, marking a significant milestone for air travel in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the airport’s first phase on October 8. This substantial greenfield project, costing Rs 19,650 crore, is set to launch commercial operations by December. Around 200 CISF personnel participated in the formal induction ceremony held at the airport, where it was announced the security force would reach 900 members by the operation's commencement.

This greenfield facility becomes the 71st airport under CISF's vigilant counter-terrorism cover. Spanning 1,160 hectares, this is the second major airport in the Mumbai area. The initial phase features a terminal and runway with a capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. Developed over several phases, Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd, primarily held by the Adani Group, leads this endeavor.
