The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called on the aviation safety regulator, DGCA, to revoke any extensions or relaxations granted to airlines concerning new flight duty and rest regulations. The plea highlights the pilots' community's intent to maintain stringent safety measures for cockpit crew.
Representing over 5,000 pilots across India, the FIP insists on the immediate implementation of the DGCA-mandated norms, which were directed by the Delhi High Court. The new regulations, aimed at reducing fatigue, include increased weekly rest periods and limited night landings.
Despite initial resistance from airlines like IndiGo and Air India, compliance was achieved following legal pressure. The FIP warns of potential legal action against the DGCA for non-compliance, particularly in light of recent incidents linked to pilot fatigue.
