Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has urged the Union Heavy Industries Minister, H D Kumaraswamy, to scrutinize the performance of operators running electric buses under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, highlighting concerns over 'safety lapses' and 'poor service standards' in Bengaluru's e-mobility network.
In his letter dated October 25, Reddy pointed out that these operators, working under schemes such as FAME II and CESL, have failed to meet the expectations of efficiency and safety. Issues include lack of structured driver training, frequent cancellations, and persistent breakdowns, negatively impacting Bengaluru's reputation.
Reddy called for binding clauses in tenders for driver training and compliance monitoring to enhance standards, expressing confidence that corrective actions would be taken for the well-being of commuters and the e-mobility sector's credibility.
