Highlighting the importance of timely disciplinary actions, she urges officers to facilitate trade without compromising enforcement, stressing that honest taxpayers should be respected, while dishonest ones should meet protocol.
In a significant directive, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged GST officers to exhibit empathy and politeness while interacting with honest taxpayers. In her speech, she emphasized the crucial role of technology in ensuring swift registration approvals and grievance redressal. Officers are encouraged to use tech tools to ease taxpayer compliance burdens.
Speaking at the opening of the CGST building in Ghaziabad, Sitharaman called for timely and decisive disciplinary actions against misconduct within the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). This, she believes, will reinforce accountability and convey that unethical behavior is intolerable within the organization.
Sitharaman reiterated that while taxpayers should be treated respectfully, officers must adhere to established protocols when dealing with dishonest entities. She also highlighted the necessity of completing pending GST investigations expediently, ensuring that judgments are well-reasoned and reduce litigation costs.
