The Mizoram Tipper Association and Joint Action Committee launched a four-day strike on Thursday to protest the poor condition and slow repair of NH-306/06. Despite the arrest of 24 participants, vehicle flow remained steady thanks to a significant police presence, according to local officials.
The highway, dubbed as Mizoram's lifeline, was recently repaired in July and August but has since fallen into disrepair, prompting the protest. The detained individuals included leaders from both protesting organizations. The protestors sought to block stretches of NH-306/06 and a diversion road crucial for state logistics.
The state government has declared its opposition to the strike, stating that repair work is underway. Home Minister K Sapdana warned against the protest, citing legal repercussions. Meanwhile, PWD Minister Vanlalthlana announced that the repairs are expected to be completed by November.
