Eastern Railway Boosts Festive Travel with Special Train Surge
The Eastern Railway is conducting over 1,300 special train trips during major Indian festivals to manage high passenger demand. This effort involves around one lakh staff from the Kolkata region. Future plans include a record 12,000 special train trips by Indian Railways for festive travel in 2025.

The Eastern Railway (ER) is ramping up its operations, undertaking more than 1,300 special train trips to handle the increased demand among travelers during the festive periods of Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, as per an official announcement on Wednesday.
Nearly 100,000 employees of the ER, headquartered in Kolkata, are actively working to ensure passenger comfort during the upcoming Chhath festival. Of these special train trips, 329 are departing from key stations, including Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, Asansol, Bhagalpur, and Malda Town, heading towards various destinations, a statement from the ER indicated.
Additionally, 663 trips from other zonal railways are scheduled to start or end within the ER zone, with another 320 passing through. Looking ahead, the Indian Railways has ambitious plans to set a record with over 12,000 special train journeys in 2025 during the festive season, compared to 7,724 trips the previous year.
