In anticipation of a significant increase in traveler volume during the Deepavali festival, Southern Railway has introduced a series of measures to enhance travel convenience and safety. A senior official confirmed on Tuesday that these steps include the addition of more trains and strengthened safety measures at major railway stations.
Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager of the Chennai Division, announced that 85 special trains covering 435 trips across 20 sectors have been introduced. In addition to this, 176 extra train services with additional stops have been deployed to accommodate the holiday rush more effectively.
To ensure a seamless experience, around 300 security personnel are on duty to manage boarding processes, while dedicated temporary facilities such as waiting areas with seating, water, and sanitation facilities have been arranged. Information desks have been established to guide passengers, and six suburban trains will operate post-festival to aid the influx of returning travelers. Safety measures, including CCTV and regular patrolling, have been reinforced to assure traveler safety, particularly women passengers.
