Huawei Technologies announced a global investment of 18 billion yuan ($2.6 billion) in research and development for smart driving technologies, focusing 10 billion yuan on enhancing computing power for training initiatives, a senior company executive revealed on Thursday.

Over the next half-decade, Huawei plans an expenditure of 70 to 80 billion yuan on computing capabilities, according to Jin Yuzhi, the company's senior vice president. This announcement comes ahead of China's most significant auto show, underscoring Huawei's strategy to defend and expand its influence in China's smart EV sector, propelled by its high-tech solutions.

Exhibited at the Beijing event were 38 vehicle models, including Audi and Toyota's BZ7, equipped with Huawei's smart driving systems. Although automotive solutions form a smaller section of Huawei's business alongside telecommunications, smartphones, and cloud services, it remains the fastest-growing segment, boasting a 72% rise in sales to 45 billion yuan in 2025. Huawei also recorded a 2.2% increase in overall revenue to 880.9 billion yuan last year, coinciding with the launch of its new Qiankun ADS driving assistance system.
