Hyderabad's Red Balloon Aerospace is preparing to launch an innovative super pressure balloon (SPB) aimed at enhancing telecommunications coverage in underserved and rural regions. The company announced Wednesday that their SPB will carry payloads for up to 100 days, operating high above Earth in the stratosphere.

The SPB is equipped with a high-resolution imaging payload capable of delivering between 25 and 75 centimetre resolution, along with a range of sensor capabilities. Positioned between 20 and 40 kilometres from Earth's surface, it will provide not only telecommunications coverage but also support disaster management operations and strategic spatial observation.

Co-founder and COO Sireesh Pallikonda described the initiative as building towers in the sky to extend connectivity to remote villages, tribal areas, and coastlines, areas traditional towers cannot access. The anticipated launch is slated for the second quarter of the year.
