The Congress party has sharply criticized the Election Commission after it issued a stern notice to its leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, for his 'terrorist' remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jairam Ramesh labeled the Commission's actions as evidence of its bias, implying its submission to the ruling party’s influence.
Ramesh went further to accuse the Election Commission of undermining constitutional values and demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. He claimed the Commission's actions were disgraceful and recorded, 'an assault on the Constitution.'
The controversy erupted on the cusp of crucial polling in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, with Kharge asserting that his comments aimed to highlight the misuse of government machinery by the Prime Minister to intimidate political opponents, rather than a literal accusation.
