The Kerala Police have issued a warning about a sophisticated cyber scam affecting Vivo and iQOO smartphone users. Fraudsters are circulating fake 'OriginOS Update' messages designed to trick individuals into installing malware that compromises sensitive data, including banking information.
According to a police statement, victims receive alarming 'Urgent System Update Required' pop-ups. These pop-ups lead to the download of malicious files, thereby granting fraudsters unauthorized access to the phone's critical features and personal information, potentially resulting in financial theft.
The police strongly recommend using only the official 'System Update' option in the settings. Users should also disable the 'Install from Unknown Sources' feature, employ reliable antivirus software, and report any incidents of financial fraud promptly via the cyber helpline or the National Cyber Crime Portal.
