In a significant regulatory challenge, European Union authorities have directed Meta Platforms, WhatsApp's parent company, to reverse recent changes they claim restrict rival AI chatbots' access to the messaging app.
This comes after Meta attempted to resolve antitrust suspicions by introducing fees for third-party AI companies, a move deemed inadequate by the EU Commission.
The commission warns that this pricing strategy mirrors a previously contested ban and constitutes an abuse of Meta's dominant position that could harm market competition, as reiterated by Vice President Teresa Ribera.
