EU Invests €1.07 Billion in Defence Innovation Projects

The European Commission has unveiled a significant investment in defence innovation, committing €1.07 billion ($1.3 billion) to 57 critical projects. These initiatives span sectors including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, drones, and anti-drone systems.
This funding is a segment of the broader €7.3 billion fund designated for 2021-2027, which aligns with the EU Commission's Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030. It centers on four major flagship initiatives: the European Drone Defence Initiative, the Eastern Flank Watch, the European Air Shield, and the European Space Shield.
Furthermore, the EU is strengthening its ties with the Ukrainian defence industry through Project STRATUS, aiming to develop an AI-driven cyber defence system for drone swarms. This collaborative effort involves 634 entities across 26 EU member states and Norway.
