A pro-Russian cyber group made an unsuccessful attempt to disrupt operations at a Swedish thermal power plant last year, as confirmed by the Swedish government on Wednesday. Carl-Oskar Bohlin, the minister for civil defence, stated the attack targeted a plant in western Sweden during the spring of 2025.
Bohlin revealed at a news conference that the Security Police identified those behind the attack, linking them to Russian intelligence and security services. He reassured that no severe damage occurred due to the plant's built-in protection mechanisms.
The Russian embassy in Stockholm remained silent when approached for comments, though Moscow consistently denies engaging in harmful cyber activities in Europe. Bohlin highlighted the rising frequency of such Russian hybrid attacks, drawing parallels to incidents involving Poland’s energy infrastructure.
