Microsoft's $50 Billion AI Bet on India and the Global South

Microsoft has announced a significant commitment to the Global South, revealing plans to invest $50 billion by the end of this decade to expand artificial intelligence technologies across these regions, particularly focusing on India.

According to Brad Smith, Microsoft's Vice-Chairman and President, this massive investment underscores the necessity of combining private capital, technological enterprise funding, and government support to foster AI demand in developing regions. Critical infrastructure like data centers, connectivity, and electricity are also emphasized as key facets of the initiative.

Smith highlighted the importance of enabling local populations to leverage AI by building necessary skills and infrastructure.
