Maruti Suzuki India officially entered the electric vehicle segment on Tuesday, unveiling the eVitara, its inaugural battery electric SUV. The company, in collaboration with Suzuki Motor Corporation, plans to sell the vehicle in over 100 countries, marking a significant stride in its global expansion.
Senior Executive Officer Partho Banerjee highlighted this launch as a transformative moment for the company. With EV penetration in India at just 4-5%, Maruti Suzuki aims to drive significant growth in the sector. The company has already developed extensive EV ecosystems to address barriers like charging infrastructure and resale value concerns.
Priced at 10.99 lakh, the eVitara offers a range of up to 543 km with various battery options and includes a complimentary AC Wall Box Charger. Maruti Suzuki is also introducing flexible ownership plans and aims to establish over 1 lakh charging points across India by 2030 to support its EV rollout strategy.
