Takamoto Katsuta, representing Toyota, surged into the lead during the Rally of Spain's opening stage held in the Canary Islands. Outpacing Finnish counterpart Sami Pajari, Katsuta remains on course for a third consecutive win after triumphs in Croatia and Kenya.

Italy's Roberto Dapra, driving a Skoda, secured third place, while Spaniard Dani Sordo, in a Hyundai, took fourth. The event welcomed the return of Toyota's world champion Sebastien Ogier, who, alongside Hyundai's Adrien Fourmaux, shared sixth place.

Juha Kankkunen, Toyota's deputy team principal, anticipates the upcoming stages to challenge competitors with their fast, flowing nature. The rally continues with multiple loops, ensuring a tense, competitive atmosphere.
