Abhishek Sharma, the explosive opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is on the cusp of joining an elite group, as he closes in on the 2000-run milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his franchise. Currently, he's amassed 1941 runs, positioning himself as the fourth-highest run-scorer for SRH.

At the helm of SRH's all-time run scorers is Australian veteran David Warner, who has piled up 4014 runs in just 95 matches with an impressive average of 49.55 and a formidable strike rate of 142.59. Following Warner, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson hold the second and third spots with 2768 and 2101 runs, respectively. Should Sharma reach the 2000-run mark, he will become the second Indian after Dhawan to achieve this feat for SRH.

Among his achievements, Sharma boasts the record for SRH's highest individual score in an IPL match. His remarkable 141-run innings from 55 balls against Punjab Kings last season was a blend of 14 fours and 10 towering sixes, setting a benchmark for Indian batters in the league. In IPL 2026, his performance has seen peaks and troughs, with a total of 188 runs in six innings, including a top score of 74.

SRH, under the leadership of Ishan Kishan, currently holds the fourth spot on the points table, with three wins from six matches. As they prepare to face Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium today, Sharma is eager to reach his landmark achievement. Meanwhile, captain Pat Cummins, though fit, remains unavailable for selection, and Gerald Coetzee steps in to replace the injured David Payne. (ANI)
