At Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first against the beleaguered Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter. MI, positioned ninth on the points table, are desperate for a turnaround with only one win from four matches, having faced a recent 18-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

In a post-toss interview, PBKS skipper Iyer expressed confidence in his team's combination, aiming to maintain their winning momentum, as they have won three and saw one game end in no result. Iyer emphasized the need for focus and continuity, adding, "Looks a bit dry. We are going with the same team."

Conversely, MI captain Hardik Pandya revealed a forced change due to Rohit Sharma's hamstring issue, declaring that he will miss the match. Quinton de Kock is set to open the innings alongside Ryan Rickelton. "We wanted to bowl first, too. It's time for a win. We are aware of the mistakes we made," Pandya noted. MI's playing XI for the match includes notable players like Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar, while PBKS fields a consistent setup led by Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh in the bowling department.
