Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has expressed his continued support for opening batsman Sanju Samson, despite early criticism following his performances. Samson, who transferred from Rajasthan Royals with high expectations, has yet to impress in the new season with CSK, which saw poor results last year.
The Player of the Tournament from India’s triumphant 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, Samson has only managed scores of 6 and 7 in his two matches so far. Fleming, speaking to journalists after a recent match, emphasized that the nature of T20 cricket means not every game will yield high scores, but remained confident in Samson’s form and potential.
Concerns have mounted as Samson, who has a subpar average at the Chepauk grounds, continues to struggle. The pressure is building for CSK to improve their performance, having lost both opening fixtures of the season. They are set to face the current champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, this Sunday.
