The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is moving to secure a significant budget increase, requesting that the Prime Minister approve boosting its annual budget from 1.2 billion to 4.9 billion rupees. This change, discussed at the 36th general body meeting in Islamabad, is intended to meet the increasing demands of both national and international sporting arenas.
The PSB's focus includes implementing a Long-Term Athlete Development Programme (LTADP), aiming to transition from an activity-based to a performance-driven sports model. Such an approach will align Pakistan's sports system with international standards, including those of the Olympics. The board demands national federations submit comprehensive development plans within 90 days, tying funding meticulously to performance outcomes.
Presided over by Federal Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan, the meeting also addressed critical governance changes. These reforms are poised to enhance athlete development and boost competitiveness on the international stage. A strong emphasis was placed on the adherence to term limits for leadership roles within federations to ensure transparency and accountability.
