Gautam Gambhir, the celebrated cricketer and former Member of Parliament, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking immediate relief following allegations of his identity being misused through artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and unauthorised commercial activities. A hearing, initially scheduled for today, has now been postponed to Monday due to existing discrepancies in the case documents.

Presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, the Court identified inconsistencies between the plaint and the memo of parties' descriptions. It emerged during the proceedings that these issues were highlighted by the defendant intermediaries. Gambhir's legal representative, Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, requested time to address the discrepancies, which the court granted, allowing for a fresh memo to be filed before the next judicial date.

In a serious appeal, Dehadrai informed the Court about the circulation of falsified deepfake videos, purporting to show Gambhir in compromising situations or making controversial statements, such as resigning. The legal counsel stressed the severity of these actions, which also included the defamation involving editing Gambhir's image onto notable figures like the Father of the Nation. Furthermore, Gambhir's plea demands a permanent injunction to prevent the misuse of his identity, an immediate halt to further propagation of such content, and Rs 2.5 crore in damages alongside an account of profits derived from these activities.
