Gautam Gambhir Battles AI Deepfake Misuse in High Court

Gautam Gambhir, India's head coach and former Member of Parliament, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to combat the alleged misuse of his identity through artificial intelligence and deepfakes. He accuses social media accounts, intermediaries, and e-commerce platforms of unauthorized use of his image, voice, and likeness.

The petition seeks an ex-parte ad-interim injunction to immediately remove infringing content and halt its spread until a final decision is reached. Additionally, Gambhir is demanding ₹2.5 crore in damages and an official account of the activities exploiting his identity.

Gambhir's legal action reflects the rising concern over AI-manipulated content, including videos falsely depicting him with statements he never made, which have misled the public. Highlighting the theft of his persona as a commercial asset, he stresses the broader implications for dignity and legal rights in an era dominated by AI-driven misinformation.
