Cricket icon Gautam Gambhir, renowned for his achievements in the ICC World Cup, has filed a civil lawsuit with the Delhi High Court to protect his image and personality rights. This lawsuit targets a widespread digital impersonation effort involving AI technologies creating deepfakes and unauthorized content utilizing Gambhir's likeness.

According to a press release, the alarm was raised in late 2025 with Gambhir’s legal team documenting a significant rise in fabricated social media content. These included falsely attributed video statements and unauthorized merchandise sales online. Websites like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and platforms like Amazon and Flipkart are implicated in facilitating this exploitation.

The legal action names 16 defendants, spanning social media accounts, e-commerce platforms, and tech intermediaries, and it seeks to halt the unauthorized dissemination of Gambhir’s image. Invoking multiple legal statutes, the lawsuit demands significant damages and preventive measures, underlining the vital need for protecting public personalities in the AI era.
