Bayern Munich's goalkeeper and captain, Manuel Neuer, is sidelined for several weeks following a calf injury. The 39-year-old goalkeeper suffered a minor muscle tear in his left calf during Bayern's 3-0 win over Werder Bremen, the club confirmed on Sunday.
This setback likely rules Neuer out for 'der Klassiker' against Borussia Dortmund on February 28, a crucial game as Bayern leads Dortmund by six points with 12 rounds left in the Bundesliga. Neuer's injury occurred in the first half of Saturday's match. Consequently, Jonas Urbig, at 22, stepped in to substitute him in the second half.
Urbig will likely have more opportunities to prove himself in the coming weeks while Neuer recovers, potentially impacting Bayern's control in the league.
