Significant developments have unfolded at Al-Hol camp in Syria, as reported by the UN refugee agency. The camp, once home to thousands, now sees its population declining significantly. UNHCR representative Gonzalo Vargas Llosa confirmed the Syrian government's plan to relocate the remaining families to the Akhtarin camp in Aleppo Governorate.
Vargas Llosa stated that the UNHCR is poised to assist displaced populations, ensuring their integration back into society. The exact number of residents leaving Al-Hol or those remaining is unclear, following the government's takeover from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces last month.
This transition has occurred alongside the transfer of 5,704 IS suspects from Syrian detention facilities to Iraqi custody. These developments are a part of ongoing international efforts to address the remnants of the Islamic State group activities in the region.
