U.S. Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, arrived in Milan ahead of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. They will cheer for Team USA alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the opening ceremony. Concerns arise over potential protests against U.S. presence due to ICE involvement.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by his wife Usha, arrived in Milan on Thursday in anticipation of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics' opening ceremony. Vance, adorned with a U.S. flag on his jacket, expressed his support for Team USA, emphasizing national unity across political lines in rooting for the athletes.
Upon arrival at Malpensa Airport, the couple was warmly welcomed by Tilman Fertitta, the U.S. ambassador to Italy, and greeted by applause from a small group of athletes. Vance humorously noted his wife's newfound interest in the Games, highlighting the Olympics' unique ability to captivate and unify Americans.
Joining the Vances was Secretary of State Marco Rubio, set to attend the San Siro stadium ceremony. Despite concerns over potential protests linked to ICE's role in security, Italy's interior minister reassured that ICE personnel would not conduct policing in Italy, seeking to calm political unrest.
