An Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter tragically crashed during a response to an active shooter situation, claiming the lives of its pilot and a paramedic trooper onboard.
The helicopter, a Bell 407, was assisting the Flagstaff Police Department when it went down around 10:15 PM, resulting in a subsequent fire. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the aircraft, manufactured in 2004, crashed just northeast of the shooting scene.
The FAA is collaborating with the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate the cause. Meanwhile, the shooter, injured but alive, is in custody. Authorities have yet to release the names of the fallen personnel.
