Amelia Valverde, known for coaching Costa Rica in the 2015 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups, is on the verge of joining the Indian women’s football team as a mentor.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is finalizing her contract, which includes her bringing in a goalkeeping coach and a strength and conditioning coach. This strategic move is set to bolster India's training in Turkey, with practice matches scheduled against top European clubs.

Valverde's appointment, approved by the AIFF technical committee, is supported by India’s head coach Crispin Chhetri. The duo aims to enhance India's competitiveness at the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup, where top teams vie for qualification to the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
