Indian grapplers brought home a commendable haul from the U23 World Wrestling Championships 2025, wrapping up the global event with nine medals in total. Held in Serbia, almost 700 wrestlers across the world participated, with India fielding competitors in both men's and women's freestyle and Greco-Roman categories.
Sujeet Kalkal emerged as the standout performer for India, clinching gold in the 65kg men's freestyle, the only gold in this category for India. His emphatic 10-0 victory over Uzbekistan's Umidjon Jalolov set the tone for India's impressive finish. This victory marked a continued legacy of triumph at the U23 championships, adding to the previous tally of three golds since the event's inception.
In total, India secured nine medals, strategically placing among the top national teams. Standouts included bronze medals from Vishvajit More in the Greco-Roman 55kg and Priya Malik in the women's 76kg freestyle. With collective efforts leading to two silvers and five bronzes, India's women wrestlers proudly brought home the team title, reaffirming their strength on the international stage.
