Kenyan Marathoner Ruth Chepngetich's Doping Ban: A Marathon Legacy under Scrutiny

Ruth Chepngetich, the esteemed Kenyan marathoner, has been handed a three-year ban following her admission of anti-doping rule violations. Chepngetich, holder of the women's marathon world record, had her ban reduced by a year after she confessed to mistakenly ingesting a banned substance.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) provisionally suspended her in July, after hydrochlorothiazide was detected in a sample. Challenges arose as Chepngetich initially denied the allegations but later claimed an unintentional ingestion through her housemaid's medication.

While her athletic achievements set before the positive test remain intact, the incident highlights the ongoing doping challenges within the sport, particularly from Kenya, famed for its long-distance running prowess.
