The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has suspended Greco Roman wrestler Sanjeev following the discovery of inconsistencies in his domicile and identity documents, according to a notice released on Thursday.
WFI's investigation revealed conflicting details about Sanjeev's place of birth and residence, showing discrepancies between records from Delhi and Haryana. He had participated in the senior world championship last year but lost in the 55kg category opening round.
Inconsistencies arose after a birth certificate was issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in August 2022, 22 years after his birth in November 2000, followed by a Haryana Resident Certificate in September 2022. Sanjeev also obtained a passport from the Regional Passport Office in Delhi, which conflicted with Haryana departmental records. Official clarification has been sought, and Sanjeev is suspended from all WFI activities pending resolution.
