Odisha Scorches Under Severe Heatwave
Odisha is experiencing a severe heatwave, with Jharsuguda recording the state's highest temperature at 44.8°C. The heatwave affects 18 places with temperatures soaring 40°C and above. The state government has announced school closures due to the persistent extreme weather conditions.

Odisha is facing an intense heatwave, with industrial town Jharsuguda hitting the state’s peak temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius for the second day, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Friday, 18 areas, including Jharsuguda, recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Titlagarh came in second with a searing 44 degrees Celsius, followed by Sambalpur and Hirakud at 43.6°C and 43.4°C respectively. Capital city Bhubaneswar experienced 39.4 degrees Celsius.
The IMD forecasts continued hot conditions in several districts through Saturday, with possible thunderstorms in some areas. The Odisha government has closed all schools starting Monday to safeguard against the heat.
